The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will once again reconvene its Conservation Congress after State Representative David Reis (R-Ste. Marie) urged action through legislation this past May.
Conservation Congress works with conservation specialists, elected officials and DNR staff to improve communication with constituents, and to protect and conserve the state’s natural resources.
Rep. Reis was chief co-sponsor of House Resolution 275 that passed the House unanimously with support from IDNR Director Marc Miller.
Reis stated, “Working alongside Representative John Cavaletto (R-Salem), we introduced and passed legislation to engage outdoor enthusiasts, conservation advocates and state officials on how best to protect and conserve our state’s natural resources. Its been several years since the congress has met so opening the lines of communication is key to making Illinois a conservation-friendly state.”
The mission of the Illinois Conservation Congress shall be to propose and advocate actions that can be taken by elected and appointed officials to protect and conserve the natural resources of the State, and ensure through professional management that sustainable use, recreational opportunities and enjoyment of these resources is available for this and future generations.
“Downstate Illinois has some of the most beautiful and sought after natural resources in the nation,” Rep. Reis continued. “Conservation Congress will keep Illinois’ natural resources and its educational, cultural and economic benefits around for generations to come.”
The Conservation Congress will meet for its two day conference on October 24th and 25th at the IDNR Headquarters in Springfield. Those seeking more information may contact Rep. Reis’ office at 618-392-0108 or by visiting http://www.dnr.state.il.us/nrab/cc.htm.
